Housesitting by Denise
2006 Top Five Finalist!
The pet sitters nominated for our industry's top honor embody all of the qualities that have brought professional pet sitting to the forefront of the international pet-care scene. The nominees are evaluated on PSI's recommended Quality Standards for Excellence in Pet Sitting and it would make you proud to look through those hundreds of nominations and see how every pet sitter nominated deserves special recognition.
Denise started out simply house sitting for vacationing home owners. Her operation quickly grew to a thriving pet-sitting business that now serves 210 clients with the help of seven ICs, but she still specializes in overnights. When she's not pet sitting, she enjoys visiting other pet sitters to learn more about their business structure. To relieve stress and avoid burnout, Denise takes short camping trips to the beach whenever possible.
For years, Denise has been active in pet-related charities in her community. She recently initiated a new "Cozy Cots for Cats" campaign. She has collected hundreds of shoe boxes to serve as temporary beds for kittens at her local animal shelter. Next on her agenda is to start a program for elementary students with reading problems to read to the shelter dogs. The purpose of this program is to improve the children's reading skills and to help socialize the shelter pets.
Other plans for the future include continuing to grow her pet sitting business and hire more staff. To accomplish this, Denise will be speaking to area businesses about the pet-sitting industry and the benefits of leaving pets in their own home environment.
Denise received her 2006 PSY nomination from local veterinarians, clients, groomers, fellow pet-sitters, and individuals in the community. She was surprised at all the support she received and her being one of the top 5 finalists for 2006. Always striving to do and be the best, she is hoping to receive the top honor as the 2007 Pet-Sitter of the Year!
